The distinctive side of diagonal fabrics

“Changing direction” is often what we do when looking for something new, whether it’s a different approach or a new perspective. In textiles, the same idea can apply!

In fantasy Jerseys and Interlocks, a diagonal effect can emerge as a visual feature created through the structure of the fabric. In French Terry, the construction itself can take a real diagonal direction. The techniques may be different, but the final result is the same: a distinctive diagonal direction. ↗️

‍

‍

Compared with the more regular and linear appearance we are used to seeing in fabrics, a diagonal effect introduces another visual dimension:

Regular appearance

  • Uniform, linear appearence
  • Classic and familiar look
  • Visually discreet

Diagonal effect

  • Noticeable diagonal direction
  • Distinctive, dynamic visual
  • With a design feature

‍

In these diagonal French Terries, the characteristic loops follow a visible diagonal direction. In some cases, when the reverse side of the fabric is deliberately exposed, as seen in ref. 6419, the loopback itself becomes part of the garment’s visual identity.

‍

More than just a construction detail, the diagonal becomes an aesthetic feature in itself, bringing movement, rhythm and visual depth to the surface.
