Our Story

A legacy reaching the world

For more than 25 years, we have embraced a Naturally Advanced approach to developing and manufacturing natural-based fabrics. From father to sons, the focus has been designing high-quality knitted fabrics, both for TINTEX’s own collections and in response to the needs of our clients, global retail brands, and apparel manufacturers.

1998
TINTEX was born.
2000
Partnership with Lenzing to introduce TENCEL™ Lyocell to the market.
2009
Substitution of naphtha with natural gas as the primary thermal energy source.
2013
Launch of the first major R&D project on natural dyeing processes using fungal and plant-based biomass.
2015
Installation of a 460 kWp photovoltaic panel array covering approximately 3,500 sqm, alongside the achievement of GOTS certification.
2016
Installation and start-up of a new coating line.
2017
Award of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OCS, GRS, and OEKO-TEX® STeP certifications, together with the launch of the TINTEX NATURALLY ADVANCED brand image.
2020
GOTS certification of the mercerization process, adding value to the product range.
2021
Partnership with Quinta de Soalheiro to launch INVINOTEX®, a sustainable alternative to animal leather made from grape harvest by-products.
2022
Achievement of RCS certification and installation of a biomass steam boiler, replacing natural gas as the primary thermal energy source.
2024
Relocation to new offices.
Award of Army Certification for a functional coating.
2025
Granting of B Corp certification.

Where is TINTEX located?

Our factory and offices are located in Vila Nova de Cerveira, in the beautiful northern region of Portugal.

What products and services do you provide?

We supply brands and garment manufacturers with premium and smart circular knitted fabrics for the Fashion, Activewear, Loungewear, Underwear segments. We also produce coated fabrics for the Footwear, Bags,  Accessories, Interior Design and Automotive sectors.

What types of fabrics do you manufacture?

We can manufacture all kinds of knitted circular finished fabrics, but our specialty is clean and durable natural-based fabrics, such as (mercerized) cotton, lyocell, modal, linen, hemp, and their blends. From compact Interlocks and heavy Fleeces to light Jerseys and never-out-of-style Piqués, our diverse selection ensures we can meet various client needs and preferences.

What sustainable practices do you follow in your manufacturing process?

We are strongly committed to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. We are a B Corp and certified by ISO 14001, OEKO-TEX® STeP, ZDHC Supplier to Zero Level II, GOTS, OCS, GRS, RCS, as well as a member of the Better Cotton Initiative and a signatory of the Science Based Targets initiative. We’re extensively audited under numerous and rigorous ecological and social industry standards, and publish Sustainability Reports annually.We are very committed to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. TINTEX is ISO 14001 certified, a bluesign® System Partner, a signatory of the Sustainable Based Targets initiative, is extensively audited in numerous and rigorous industry ecological and social standards, and discloses Sustainability Reports yearly.

We prioritize the use of environmentally conscious materials and efficient machinery, minimize waste during production, and follow strict safety and health directives that guarantee our fabrics are safe to use and responsibly produced.

Additionally, we explore improved processes to reduce our carbon footprint, such as monitoring equipment energy consumption, process automation, solar photovoltaic power generation, the use of biomass as a thermal energy source, wastewater recycling, thermal energy recovery systems, and many others.
